If you wish to surprise your friends and family, forget about the common souvenirs.

To start the day you should try a typical Majorcan pastry called “ensaimada”. This sweet spiral-shaped dough is the best known delicacy among the local people. Traditionally it was made only with the dough, nevertheless nowadays you can find them with a variety of fillings: typical pumpkin marmalade, custard, chocolate, whipped cream… You may get them in bakery and confectionery shops as well as local markets.

The next step might be giving an “island touch” to your look. To achieve so there is nothing better than traditional esparto grass espadrilles and natural raffia basket, “unes epsardenyes i una senalla”, as Majorcan people say. Again, they are easily found in local markets and open-air stalls, both in traditional and reinvented, more stylish designs.

With filled bellies and Mediterranean look you are prepared to look for the best handcrafted and artisan products of the island. There is a large pottery production which includes pots, dishes, jugs, casseroles known as “greixoneres” and white clay figures with red and green strokes called “siurells”. All these articles are fragile, make sure to protect them well for the journey back home.

But if you look for something more luxury and exclusive, you should visit glass-blowing factories such as Gordiola and La Fiore. Household, decoration, lighting… You will discover real pieces of art where each creation is one of its kind. Either, show off your suntan and get yourself some pearls and jewelry in Majorica. In Manacor, where the first manufactory was born and still exists, you will be able to enjoy a short guided tour where you will get to know all the details about the production of those little wonders.

A great number of these souvenirs and local products can be purchased at the last moment at the airport. Nonetheless we suggest you make the most of Majorca and dedicate at least one day to discover its cuisine and handcraft.

And do not forget to take a fridge magnet with you!
