Taste the best products of the island.

Majorca is known not only for its beautiful beaches, but also for its delicious food. We like to use local products to cook, we cultivate them and cook them with love and tradition. As we are very proud of our fantastic cuisine, we want to share it with the tourists and the “forasters” (as we call Spanish visitors coming from the mainland). In Hoteles Saint Michel we want to share with you a list of the gastronomic delights of Mallorca.

1.Sobrasada

“Sobrasada” is a raw sausage that is made out of pork, to be more specific the pork´s guts (although it does not sound very encouraging to taste it, it is a bit similar to the chorizo and it is really tasty). Local people eat “sobrasada” with “quelitas” (typical Majorcan cookies) every afternoon. If you are a foreigner and you have already come to the island before, surely you came back home with two or three “sobrasada” in your suitcase. It is one of the best known and exported products of the island.

2.Ensaimada

“Ensaimada” is an emblematic product of Majorcan gastronomy. This fantastic sweet dough can be eaten alone or stuffed with whatever you want: chocolate, cream, pumpkin jam, etc... At the airport it is very common to see the tourists with typical boxes in which “ensaimadas” are sold, as it is a perfect gift for your family and friends. We are happy our most popular sweet product is so well known abroad.

3.Frito mallorquín

The name itself already tells us that there is nothing more Majorcan than “frito” (“frit” as Majorcan people call it). This typical dish is prepared with fried meat, lamb and liver, typical Majorcan vegetables are also used: tomato, potato, onion and pepper. Surely it is not well known abroad, but local people use to eat it every Sunday, preferably before the paella or porcella (suckling pig).

4.Coca de Trampó

Another typical dish of Mallorca is “coca de Trampó” (Majorcan flatbread with vegetables). There are many Mediterranean areas where you can eat something similar, but we can assure you our “coca” is definitely the best. It is very healthy and ideal for vegetarians, as it is made with typical Majorcan vegetables: red and green peppers, onions, and tomatoes.

Now that you know the most typical Majorcan food, we are sure you will try them on your next visit to our delicious island!
