The rise from Güell to Lluc on foot covers 48 km from Palma to Lluc Monastery and has been done since 1974; now it has become a Majorcan tradition. It started by chance as Tolo Güell went on pilgrimage to the Lluc Monastery to express his gratitude to the Virgin because his little girl had been cured. A year later he decided to repeat the experience and each year more and more people have joined him . Nowadays, it is the most popular pilgrimage rise on the island and there are approximately 15.000 people participating.

Everybody can take part in the event and it is free, nevertheless if you wish to receive a diploma, you should register at: http://desguellallucapeu.es or directly in the information points. This year it is supposed to take place on 13th of August at 9:00 p.m. at the Güell Square, where a little party will be held before the rise begins at 11:00 p.m.

There are different stops on the way where water and food are provided, as well as police and medical service to guarantee the security and avoid incidents. There is a bus service going back to Palma from 6 until 11 a.m. which will take you to Inca where you can catch a train to the capital.

The traditional Majorcan rise is a perfect opportunity to explore the nature and culture of the island. Along the way you will go through little towns as Marratxí, Santa María, Consell, Binisalem, LLostea, Biniamar, Selva and Caimari, till you finally reach Lluc, where you have to climb the hill where the Monastery is found. Once you get there you will see that all the effort was worth it.

There is no doubt you will manage to succeed, nevertheless here you have some tips that will make this challenge easier for you. Getting ready physically a couple of days before is a good idea so your body is in a good shape, you can take a light run one hour a day. For the rise do not forget your most comfortable, thick-soled shoes, lightweight clothing and a backpack with water and food. But the most important of all is your attitude and motivation to get to know Majorca in these extraordinary circumstances and make the most of the unique and unforgettable experience.
